Spent the whole day catching up on minor to do items and also playing video games with the boy. Read two trades that I'd rented from the library forever ago and realized that I'm definitely not the same comic reader I was as a kid.

Wonder Woman, Vol. 1: Blood (The New 52) )

And Saga Volume 1 )

This article kind of makes me sad. It's about the objectification of Starfire and Catwoman in the new 52.

I was originally planning on picking up the new Catwoman book if only because I haven't read comics in years but Catwoman was always my favorite. I first started reading comics in middle school and I loved reading a book about an anti-hero thief who sticks it to the man. Bizarrely, Catwoman fed into my somewhat liberal economic policies by stealing from the rich. All her victims were either white rich men or criminals that hurt the little guy or banks or in one odd instance, the NY stock exchange.

Don't get me wrong, I ship Bruce/Selina because it's my literal hold-the-line OTP. I would give up Cordy/Angel, RayK/Fraser, Parker/Eliot/Hardison to keep Bruce/Selina. But I just can't see them having anonymous rooftop sex. They work because she's constantly teasing him away from self-importance and darkness and he's like a magnet pulling her towards heroism.

If she gets what she wants, if they have sex without the complicated back and forth, it doesn't make sense for me to 'ship them. It's boring for me to ship them. They're not complicated, their relationship isn't tempered by a push-pull, by a constant negotiation of desire. They don't know each other behind the mask and see how many different personalities they can wear as Batman-Bruce and Catwoman-Selina.

Anyway. From the pages I have seen, I have to laugh. Dude, DC? Where are her internal organs? (this is not a new complaint I have with Catwoman, btw) Similarly, here is a photo of someone who can physically do what Catwoman's doing:

Notice that sexy doesn't have to mean pornographic? Also, how we can see their faces?
