Is it Thursday yet?

I was sitting here asking myself why it isn't Thursday because I'm so excited for the new Community (although I can't see it until Friday). Then I realized this used to be how I felt about Supernatural and Angel before that and West Wing before that and before that I think I was only allowed to watch PBS, so it doesn't matter. (although it explains my brief infatuation with reruns of Northern Exposure and the fact that this is the most perfect joke ever on community:

Ironically, I like a lot of these name actors. Except, really? One of the things that drew me to the Hunger Games was the fact that it was a kickass girl of color, but I guess I was mistaken. Because she's actually white. And so is everyone else in the movie except for Rue and Thresh.

I... kind of don't have words for that. Because it kind of rings as beyond tokeny. Rue dies, becoming another dead POC for our heroine to wear on her back like Atlas.

Thresh is, in the book, explicitly the strongest, roughest, most animalistic character in the games. It's explicit that the career kids want him in their group because he's so physical. Dude, spoilers whited, but he crushes a girl's head with a rock. He's supposed to be badass not for being good at the game, not even for being a good strategist, but for being the strongest. FABULOUS that he's the only man of color in the main cast.

Thanks, Hollywood. You're super awesome for making my love of female driven action movies have to fight against my desire to see just one movie about a kickass girl of color.
