Fringe spoilers to 3x13
Apr. 13th, 2011 01:17 pmSo, I love the ideas they're playing with: fate, love, family, destiny, etc. However, I have a couple of not quite questions, but kind of like questions.
Part of my struggle with this show is that I love Peter and Olivia, but I have such a hard time sympathizing with our Walter. I actually empathize way more with Walternate.
Our Walter broke space and time because he couldn't deal with his own grief. Moreover, he did so knowing the consequences. These were not accidental, unintended consequences. He knew that doing this would break the world. And he did it anyway.
On the other hand, on one day Walternate loses his son, loses the stability of his world and has to spend the rest of his life trying to fix both of those situations. I keep waiting for the show to make him unlikable, but I don't find him unlikeable at all because our Walter made worse ones.
For example, when faced with the idea of giving Cortexifan to children his immediate reaction is No. And then he sticks to that. He questions himself because he is being moral, which is more than we're led to believe old Walter was.
Also, the show keeps rewriting its own mythology - but I think that's something that you only notice when watching all 3 seasons in a couple of weeks.
I want more Sam Weiss. THE END.
